ELECTRICAL SHOCK

Electrical shock is an injury is caused by an electrical current passing through the body.
Factors that determine the form and severity of injury:
·         The type and magnitude of current
·         The resistance of body  at the point of contact- different tissues in the body will offer different resistance,
·         The current pathway through the body and the duration of current flow.
·         AC is particularly three to five time more dangerous than DC.
·         What happens to a body subjected to electric shock

Electrical Injuries
Grounded sites of low-voltage injury on the feet.
What happens to a body subjected to electric shock?
·        Muscular contraction.
·        Shortness of breath,
·        Chest pain,
·        Abdominal pain.
·        Electrical burns to the hand.Pain In A Hand Or Foot Or A Deformity Of A Part Of The Body May Indicate A Possible Broken Bone Resulting From The Electric Shock.
·        Red or dark, charred appearance.
·        Numbness
·        Tingling
·        Paralysis
·        Hearing Loss
·        Speech Problems
·        Shock

When someone has been electrocuted:
First aid
·        Call the doctor
·        Look first. Don't touch. The person may still be in contact with the electrical source. Touching the person may pass the current through you.

1.       Turn off the source of electricity if possible. If not, move the source away from you and the affected person using a non conducting object made of cardboard, plastic or wood.
2.       Check for breathing. Once the person is free of the source of electricity, ensure the person is breathing. If breathing has stopped or you suspect the person's airway is blocked, begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
3.       When breathing. If the victim is unresponsive and breathing and circulation are normal, elevate his foot end by eight to twelve inches. Maintain the normal body temperature.
4.       Cover the affected areas. If the person is breathing, cover any burned areas with a sterile gauze bandage, if available, or a clean cloth. Don't use a blanket or towel. Fluffy fibers can be irritating.

Heatstroke

Heatstroke, also known as sunstroke, is a form of heat illness. Heat illness occurs when a person's core body temperature rises above a safe level of the body's internal temperature range. Heat cramps are the earliest sign of heat illness. If precautions to cool off and rehydrate at this point are not made, the more severe stage of heat illness, heat exhaustion, can occur in a rapid progression, resulting in a potentially life-threatening situation. The most severe form of heat illness is heatstroke, which may result in shock, brain damage, or death.

Signs and Symptoms:-
A person with heatstroke may have:
·         A high body temperature (above 102° F)
·         Skin that is red and hot with lack of sweating (sweating that has stopped)
·         Small pupils
·         A rapid, weak pulse
·         Rapid, shallow breathing
·         Extreme confusion or irritability
·         Weakness
·         Seizures
·         Unconsciousness

You can differentiate the most severe form of heat illness, heatstroke, from less-severe forms by comparing the person's symptoms to those above. Less-severe forms of heat illness can be identified as follows:
·         Heat cramps – Painful muscle cramps (eg, in the legs, arms, abdomen, or back), heavy perspiration, and general weakness/lightheadedness.
·         Heat exhaustion – Feelings of nausea, light-headedness, or thirst, and the person may act irrationally, have dilated pupils (pupils are larger than normal), be very sweaty, or have cool and moist skin that is either reddened or pale.

First Aid Guide:-
When heatstroke is suspected, seek emergency medical care immediately. While awaiting emergency medical services, try to cool the person as described below:-
Use a combination of the following measures depending on the circumstances and means available:
·         Have the person rest, legs slightly elevated, in a shaded area or cool or air-conditioned building, room, or car.
·         Remove or loosen the person's clothes.
·         Give the person an electrolyte drink, such as Gatorade® or Pedialyte®,or water if not available. Note: You can make a salted drink by adding 1 teaspoon of salt to one quart of water. Do not give beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol.
·         Wrap the person in wet cloth, and position a fan toward him/her. Evaporation of water on the skin aids in cooling.
·         Apply cold compresses (e.g., to neck, armpits, groin).

Rs 25 allowance for Vir Chakra awardee

Just browsing through the paper I got this article, which I felt to share with everyone, so please put your feedback on this issue.

Story Of a Vir Chakra Awardee
A Rs 25 monthly allowance might be a forgettable amount for anyone in the country, but not for Vir Chakra awardee and Indian Navy’s retired chief petty officer Mr LK Chakrabarty (67).
For every time he receives Rs 25 from the state government in his home state of West Bengal in respect of his “meritorious service rendered for the defence of the nation” during 1971 Indo-Pak war ~ when as the leader of the “killer squadron” he sunk two enemy ships and an oil installation ~ Mr Chakrabarty feels “humiliated”.
Even more, till 2007 this allowance was just Rs 12.50 paise per month whereas the amount is up to Rs 10,000 per month in other states. “With a Rs 25 allowance these days one can’t get more than six cups of tea. One feels ashamed even to pursue the matter in the case,” Mr Chakrabarty said.
Being a warrior, he is not prepared to give up easily and is fighting a “lone battle” for the last nine years against what he calls a “shameless act” of the West Bengal government.
But he has not achieved any success yet as the state government maintains the proposal for increase in monetary benefit for gallantry award winners is under consideration. It has been the case since 2007.
Mr Chakrabarty has been pursuing the matter with the state government since 2000 and has already sent numerous reminders in the matter. “I have written many times to the chief minister and the home (defence) department to increase this meagre allowance. But none of the letters have received a suitable response. One official even told me it was a ‘fixed’ allowance that cannot be reviewed!” he said. “My contemporaries get shocked when they get to know that gallantry award winners in West Bengal get Rs 25 as allowance per month. In view of the allowance being provided in other states, I have requested the state government to provide at least Rs 3,000 a month. But even this seems to be too much to ask for,” Mr Chakrabarty said. As the chief petty officer, Mr Chakrabarty was in-charge of the engineering department of the only missile ship, which fired three missiles at Pakistani establishments during the Indo-Pak war.
West Bengal has only 46 such awardees. Some of those awarded Vir Chakra for gallantry during action of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka in 1987-90, were given a one-time Rs 7,500. ;

Reality Show for Children

In today’s date, just change a channel you will find one or another Reality show is going on... it might be of Dancing, Singing or laughter. Today I just thought of sharing my views on these shows, correct me if I am wrong....

Now a days most of the TV channels have some Reality show, to cater people it comes for diverse set of people few of them are for Dancing(Boogie Woogie, Nach Baliye, Ek Hasina Ek Khiladi), Singing(Saregama Pa, Indian Idol,Voice Of India), Hilarity(Comedy Circus, Laughter Challenge), or adveuntures(Roadies), BigBoss and many more...

The Participants who win these Shows get lots of money and fame not only in the industry but also in the public, many of them after the show do stage shows and functions in different places. This has come up with new possibilities of career for many of the adolescents.

In my perception these Reality shows are ok with someone who have completed their studies, and are doing their jobs or looking for job or struggling to get break through in Singing, Acting or Dancing. But it's having adverse effect on children who are studying and have to take leave from schools, colleges, institutes for participating in these shows,. But as they nominate themselves for such tv series they have to do this on forfeit of their studies and health, many students get diverted from their actual goal of life.

If someone is really good in singing or dancing or acting, first of all they should do justice to their education and then only they should come on any of these Realities show... By doing justice to the Education I did not mean they have to come first class first or get good marks on any board exam or any professional course. After they just complete their basic education or when they become adult i.e at least become 18 years old when they can take their own responsibilities then they can come and participate on any reality show.

Nowadays children are already under lots of stress because of their studies, now to add more they participate on these Reality shows which not only effect their studies but also their health.

So, I will ask parents and school authorities to come up with this intensifying problem. I will request parents to take responsibility of their children to focus more on studies rather on these TV shows...

Effect Of Balika Badhu

The entertainment channel Colors is going to air a new serial titled `Balika Badhu` based on child marriages, which despite being unlawful is still practiced in many parts of India.Lata Sreedhar, the soap`s producer said, "This show, Balika Badhu is going to work. One, because it would spread awareness and its not been done before on television." To achieve this I think govt. should take some action so that this serial is also available in rural areas of India else it will be just like an another Hit serial in metro city. One more thing this show should also show message like Child Marriage is banned in India and its punishable. This type of message should be read properly before the start of the serial so that those who cannot read Hindi or English they can at least Listen to the message and should be aware about the consequences.
Its really great to have this type serials in television as they are the reflection of our society which bring up these issues and present in such a nice way. But also I want to make an appeal that lets spread the word by just not watching it but also implementing it in our society and also available in the rural area so that they can see the effect.
